The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá installs 8 clocks in its towers
Date: December 10, 2021
The clocks and systems that include 200 melodies arrived from Italy and will, from now on, play songs in the Marian capital of Colombia.
More than sixty years have passed since the sound of the bells can be heard again in the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá, in Boyacá.
The basilica has changed its facade and has been transformed. Eight clocks have been installed that play a Catholic melody every hour and even pay tribute to the nation, Colombia.
"A long time ago we were thinking of installing a bell system that would not only have a clock function but also somehow generate a sacred atmosphere here in Chiquinquirá," said Friar Carlos Mario Alzate, rector of the shrine of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá.
The clocks have been accurately placed in the home of the patron saint of Colombia.
"They installed 8 electronic systems and a digital carillon which includes 200 melodies that varies according to the liturgical season creating a truly beautiful sound", added Friar Carlos Mario Alzate.
The equipment was brought from Italy and has created a totally new atmosphere for the thousands of parishioners who come to the country's Marian city.
"Several years ago these clocks had already been damaged and were not synchronized and did not have this new feature that allows you to play different hymns," said Daniel Leonar Torres, a resident of Chiquinquirá.
Now the Virgin of Chiquinquirá can welcome Christmas by means of a technology which is unique in this country.
